Richfield Alum Returns as Student Teacher
Allie Eggen, a 2021 graduate of Richfield High School, has come full circle in her education journey - returning to the elementary school where her love for music first took root. Now a senior at Augsburg University, Allie just finished her assignment as a student music teacher at Richfield Dual Language School (RDLS) in the same elementary school she once attended.
"I have so many fond memories from RDLS, especially the Latin American Festival," Allie recalls. "I still remember some of the songs and dances!" Her time at RDLS, as well as at Richfield Middle School and Richfield High School, shaped her path toward becoming a music educator. Now studying Music Education with Licensure (Instrumental K-12) at Augsburg, Allie is preparing for graduation this May with hopes of finding a teaching position in the Twin Cities area.
Her passion for teaching music stems from a belief in the power of music education. "I believe that both music and learning are forces that make the world a better place to be," Allie says. "I want to spread that goodness into my community through teaching."
Student teaching at RDLS holds special meaning for Allie. "Student teaching means that I spend a semester in a classroom, observing a licensed teacher and teaching alongside them," she explained. "It's a huge learning experience, and it's so rewarding to give back to the community that helped me grow."
Being back in her former elementary school has been a heartfelt experience. "It has been wonderful being welcomed back at RDLS," she shares. "I've run into some of my old teachers, both from RDLS and RMS, and it's so lovely to meet them again as a peer. I also get to use my Spanish on a more regular basis, which is such a treat."
"My favorite moments from student teaching are greeting students in the halls and hearing 'Hi Sra. Allie' back," said Allie.
“Allie has been an excellent student-teacher,” said RDLS Music teacher Kari Taylor. “She's grown a lot as a teacher and has created strong connections with the students. It's always fun to be around teachers who are excited to enter the field of teaching. Her energy has been inspirational not only to the students but also to me! She will be missed, and we were so lucky to have her with us.”
As Allie prepares for graduation, she is excited about what lies ahead. No matter where her journey takes her, one thing is sure–Allie's passion for music and teaching will continue to inspire future generations.
We're proud to have alumni like Allie returning to RPS to teach and inspire current students, helping to shape their educational experiences.
