The MN Supreme Court Came to RHS
The Minnesota Supreme Court's Traveling Oral Arguments program visits high schools twice a year, and we were thrilled to host them at Richfield High School this spring!
On May 2, the Court conducted a live hearing of a court case from the RHS Auditorium. The case was Alejandro Cruz-Guzman, as guardian and next friend of his minor children, et al., Appellants, vs. State of Minnesota, et al., Respondents, Higher Ground Academy, et al., intervenors, Respondents (Case No. A22-0118). Around 600 students attended the hearing in person, while other students watched it live in their classrooms.
Leading up to the event, volunteer lawyers visited classrooms to teach students about the Supreme Court oral argument process and share relevant case facts.
After the oral arguments, the Supreme Court justices answered questions from students and visited some classrooms. The program's aim is to impart knowledge about the court system and foster trust and confidence in the judiciary.
You can watch a recording of the proceedings on our District's YouTube channel.
