Senior Story: Isaac Nielsen

If you've attended a Richfield High School event over the past few years, chances are you've seen Isaac Nielsen behind the camera, capturing some of the district's most memorable moments.

Isaac has become well known throughout the Richfield community for his photography and media work, documenting everything from athletic competitions to student activities. Looking back on his high school experience, he says that's one of the accomplishments he's most proud of. “Capturing everyone's favorite moments and building a following around that” has been especially meaningful to him.

After graduation, Isaac plans to attend the University of St. Thomas, where he will major in nursing. “My dream job is to be a flight nurse, helping those in critical need in the back of a helicopter,” he shared.

Isaac already has a clear plan for reaching that goal. After earning his bachelor's degree in nursing, he hopes to work as an emergency room nurse to gain critical care experience while earning the certifications necessary to become a flight nurse. In the next several years, he sees himself beginning that career and continuing to build his skills in emergency medicine.

Throughout high school, Isaac stayed involved in a wide variety of activities. He participated in football, track and field, golf, swimming, and the National Honor Society. Outside of school, he is also a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol, where he has further developed leadership and service skills.

When he's not studying or taking photos, Isaac enjoys spending time with friends. Whether it's golfing, snowboarding, urban exploring, flying, or simply having conversations around a fire, he values experiences that allow him to connect with others and enjoy the outdoors.

Isaac attended Richfield STEM Elementary and Richfield Middle School before coming to Richfield High School. He credits the people around him as one of the best parts of his school experience. “My favorite thing about school is the people and community,” he said. “I enjoy being around others as it makes school more enjoyable.”

His favorite class at RHS was Forensics because it brought together several subjects he enjoys. “It combined chemistry, biology and physics, which were some of my favorite subjects,” he shared. “I also enjoyed learning how to solve crimes.” He said the class appealed to him because it mirrored the type of critical thinking and problem-solving he hopes to use in his future healthcare career.

While many teachers have influenced him throughout high school, Isaac says one who stands out is Dr. Schiffler. “She wasn't just my English teacher but a huge mentor in how to navigate life,” he shared.

As he prepares to graduate, Isaac leaves behind a lasting visual record of Richfield High School's memories and traditions while looking ahead to a future dedicated to helping others when they need it most.

As advice for younger students, Isaac encourages them to choose their friendships wisely. “Surround yourself with people who make school worthwhile,” he said. “People who you can laugh with and push you to be your best.”
