Senior Story: Bezawit Wolde

After graduation, Bezawit plans to attend Augsburg University and pursue studies in the medical field. Her long-term goal is to become an OB/GYN, and she hopes to continue her education by earning a Ph.D.

Bezawit knows that reaching those goals will require focus and discipline. “By focusing on my classes and resisting all distractions and prioritizing my schooling,” she said, she believes she can achieve the future she has envisioned for herself.

When asked what she is most proud of, Bezawit pointed to the person she has become. “I’m proud of who I am. I am proud of how hard I work. I’m proud of my identity,” she shared.

Outside of school, Bezawit enjoys spending time with family and friends, painting, listening to music, and dancing. During high school, she has also been involved in Upward Bound, Beacons, and DECA.

Before coming to Richfield, Bezawit attended Saint Michael School in Ethiopia. She shared that her entire family immigrated from Ethiopia, and that her parents have always emphasized the importance of hard work and becoming the best version of herself. “Both my mom and my dad are hardworking,” she said. “They taught us to be the greatest people that we could be.” She also credits her siblings for inspiring her through their own dedication to academics and hard work.

At school, Bezawit enjoys spending time with friends and pushing herself academically. “I love challenging myself with schoolwork assignments and things like that,” she said.

One of her favorite classes was Physics by Inquiry. She enjoyed both the challenge and the opportunity to deepen her understanding of the subject. “It was my favorite because I was able to understand everything,” she shared. “Understanding means doing really well in that class, so I was always happy to be in that class.” She also appreciated her teacher’s ability to engage students and create a positive learning environment.

Throughout her time at Richfield High School, several teachers made a lasting impact on her, including Mr. Borka, Mrs. Keenan, Dr. Kirsten, and Mr. Zeidler, all of whom she credits as important influences.

“Bezawit received SEVEN awards at our honors program,” shared RHS teacher Molly Keenan. “Please feature this amazing human. I have been so lucky to have her as a student all year.”

As advice for younger students, Bezawit encourages them to think ahead and stay focused on their goals. “Plan everything out before you do it,” she said. “Choose your friends properly. Have faith in God and yourself when you do something.”
