Vivian Flores, a senior at Richfield High School, is set to follow her passion for beauty and cosmetology. After graduation, she plans to attend St. Paul College, where she has enrolled in a Cosmetology degree program. Vivian has successfully applied for her FAFSA scholarship and has been awarded the Ruth E. Johnson scholarship, making her journey to higher education more accessible.
Vivian’s dream job is to be a makeup artist or stylist. She has dedicated her life to researching and practicing beauty culture, knowing that she has developed a talent for it. Her biggest dream is to do makeup for famous artists who have inspired her and eventually have her own makeup line.
One of Vivian's proudest achievements is raising her grades in her final year. “I am going to graduate with the satisfaction that this year I obtained the best grades I have had in all my time at school,” she said. “It makes me proud, since last year I had very low grades because I worked too much and fell asleep in class, but now I have discipline at school.” Vivian takes pride in being a Latina who started from scratch and wants to leave a mark at school to inspire other Latinos and independent students to believe that they too can succeed.
Vivian attended primary and secondary school in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She has fond memories of her time in Mexico, where the teachers were warm and the education program was beautiful. Her family, currently in Mexico, continues to support her from afar. Vivian's mother is her favorite person, always making her feel special, and her brothers enjoy spending time with her whenever they can.
At school, Vivian appreciates the dedication of her teachers, particularly Ms. Bungert, Mr. Morrison, Mr. Powers, and Ms. Nuelle, who have all left a lasting impact on her. They have provided unwavering support and helped her improve her English and academic skills, making her feel included and capable.
“Vivian is a tenacious worker and much braver than the average student,” said Mr. Powers. “She faced her fears in class and found success working hard and putting herself out there.”
Vivian’s advice to freshmen is to have fun, find their passion and integrate into the school community. “Always be disciplined in your school goals, this will bring you many benefits in your future,” she said.
We are proud of Vivian for all of her hard work and look forward to seeing her success in the cosmetology world!
