Senior Stories: Selome Wolde

Selome Wolde, a dedicated and ambitious senior at Richfield High School, is poised to take her first steps towards a career in actuarial science. With a clear vision for her future, she aims to combine professional success with meaningful contributions to her community.

“Selome was new to the United States at the beginning of her junior year. After graduation, she is continuing her education at the University of St. Thomas. She is a hard worker who isn't afraid to ask questions, and has a bright future ahead of her!” says Ms. Whalen.

Selome is particularly proud of her ability to adapt to a new country, education system, and language. Despite the challenges, she has excelled academically and maintained a positive mindset.

In her free time, Selome enjoys reading books in both Amharic and English, researching her religion and watching movies.

One of Selome's favorite classes this year was Career and Exploration. This class was instrumental in helping her decide on her major and future career. She gained valuable insights that guided her decision-making process and was able to interview people working in her chosen field in order to learn more.

If given the opportunity, Selome would like to volunteer for Macedonia, a nonprofit organization in Ethiopia that supports elderly people with no family, individuals with disabilities, children with autism, and children with Down syndrome. She is deeply committed to giving back to her community and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Selome Wolde's journey is marked by determination, adaptability and a strong sense of purpose. With her sights set on a career as an actuary and a commitment to community service, she is ready to make a significant difference both professionally and personally.
