Senior Stories: Nancy Wang

Nancy Wang, a dedicated senior at Richfield High School, is poised to pursue her passion for computer science at the University of California - Davis. With a goal of working in the tech industry, Nancy is determined to leverage every opportunity available to gain valuable experience.

Nancy’s proudest achievement is becoming a Gates Scholar. Nancy says, “This scholarship has given me the opportunity to go to California for school, and I am so grateful to have been selected among all of the very brilliant people who applied.”

Outside of academics, Nancy is a seasoned dancer with nine years of experience, including participation in the Richfield Tapaires team from seventh to eleventh grade. Dance has not only allowed her to hone her skills but has also imparted invaluable lessons in leadership, commitment, and perseverance. As a member of the Green Team at RHS, Nancy actively contributes to environmental awareness initiatives.

Nancy draws inspiration from her family, particularly her mother and siblings. “My mom is the person who is there for me every day,” she said. “She motivates me to do well in school to achieve what she couldn’t as someone who wasn’t able to finish high school. My siblings are also an inspiration to me because they paved the way for me by getting a college education and their success is proof that their work has paid off.”

Reflecting on her academic journey, Nancy fondly recalls her favorite class, Calculus 2, taken through Normandale Community College. Despite its challenging material, the course taught her valuable lessons in time management and persistence. Nancy says, “I took this class because I’ve always loved math and didn’t want to stop. I believe that if you want something, you should take the steps necessary to find out if it’s possible!”

Her advice for freshmen is sound: “Make connections with your teachers because having a good relationship will only help you. Take the opportunity to try things out of your comfort zone because you never know who you might meet or what you’ll learn.”

If she could participate in a reality TV show, Nancy would choose The Amazing Race, where she could explore diverse cultures and embark on thrilling adventures with a friend.

Nancy Wang’s journey from dancer and student to aspiring computer scientist exemplifies resilience, determination, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. We can’t wait to see where she goes from here!
