Senior Antwane Ruiz Breaks All-Time Scoring Record for RHS Soccer
Congratulations to senior Antwane Ruiz, who is the all-time leading scorer for the RHS soccer team. Antwane has played for RHS for four years, and during that time he has scored 64 goals – shattering the previous record of 48 goals by a single player (held by Miguel Leon and Rodrigo Castenda).
“I’ve coached Anwtane since he was about 8 years old,” said coach John Niday. “Even then he was very passionate. What sets Antwane apart is his passion and love for the game and for his teammates.”
Antwane hopes to play professional soccer after his graduation from RHS. He wants to say thank you to Madame Steele for helping him in school and “making sure I’m my best ‘Twane possible, in and out of the classroom.”
Outside of school, Antwane loves spending time with his two little sisters – his “biggest fans for life.” The three of them play soccer together and wrestle. He likes to draw and color with them, too. “I’m like Picasso,” he joked. Antwane appreciates his parents and says they are his rock. “I always do my best to make them proud,” he said.
Antwane’s advice for freshmen is not to fall behind, and to always make sure their mental health is okay.
“Antwane is a charismatic, engaging senior who is rarely seen without a smile on his face,” said senior counselor Danielle Jastrow.
We want to say thank you to Antwane for an incredible performance on our soccer team during his time at RHS, as well as for his leadership on and off the field. We are proud of him and can’t wait to see what he does next!
